The game of roullete involves placing wagers on a table layout. These can be placed before the ball is spun or while the wheel and ball are spinning until the dealer calls “no more bets”.
There are many different types of bets and payouts. It is important to understand all of these before starting the game.
Origins
Although some believe that roulette originates from the ancient Romans or even from the Greeks, it is actually a French game that dates back to the 17th century. It was developed from older games such as hoca and portique and its current wheel structure was introduced in the early 18th century.
The name comes from a French word that means little wheel, which refers to the rotating wheel that is central to the game. The exact origins are obscure but it is widely believed that the game was invented by the 17th-century mathematician Blaise Pascal as part of his attempts to produce a perpetual motion machine. He combined elements of a gaming wheel with the Italian game Biribi to create the roulette mechanism. Other theories suggest that the game was created in China and then brought to France by Dominican monks.
